Post subject: How to...."remove stuck seat
posts" |
|
|
1; is there any easy way
to remove a seat post thats stuck solid its been soaking in
wd-40 for about a week and it just wont budge.
2;
has anyone found a source of decals for the gs as mine
came off in about 500 bits as they were scuffed to buggery to
start with.
i would settle for good copies or nos
would be much better although I'm not fussed either way
cheers Rob | |

Re: Seatpost
I think
most of us have had this problem.
Obviously WD40 is
the first step and youve done that with no success.
Next step have you clamped the seat on and twisted to
high heaven to try and budge it.
The you can
always..now this may seem daft but try knocking the post in a
bit further to try and shift the rust that is holding it, then
soak again with WD40.
After that its the vice trick.
use a heavy duty vice and clamp the seat post into it
obviously ruining the post in the process, the grab the frame
and twist like mad, this works on most occasions.
If
still nothing and proceed with caution on this one, you can
use gentle heating of the seat tube then twisting. this is a
last resort and be careful as you can damage the frame.
Lastly send to an engineers and get it drilled out
Any other pointers from other members they
may have done something else that has worked
As for the stickers i dont know if stuey has
sorted any but if he has i want a set too _________________

try driling a hole through
both side of the seat post, stickin something like a
screwdriver through both holes, find a "slot" that wont move (
a crack in the ground), stick the screwdriver in the slot and
move the frame until free. This might sound daft, but I have
removed 2 unmoveable seatposts this way

This is pretty obvious, but
hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet.
Take the
clamp off the seat, tighten it onto the post. Next get a
large wrench attached to the clamp and try twisting (you only
need to get 1/2mm of movement before you know it's working).
This way gives you much more leverage than twisting just
the saddle, and it doesn't damage your seatpost.

Now restoring an old mk 1 tuff
burner, bringing back memories of my youth. anyway the post
was stuck well in the frame and was vertually all the way in
previous owner had already drilled a hole in the
post but couldn't get it out.
I removed the crankset,
seat and clamps. with the crankset out theres a hole where the
seat tube joins the bottom bracket. used a can of "plusgas"
which is a dissmantling fluid, spray post round the top and
bottom through the hole, leave abit then get
physical.

all of the above didnot work
for me so i put the frame in a big chest freezer for a day
and when it was still frozen i used a blow tourch and gentle
heated the frame and it poped out with minimal damage to the
frame but its getting resprayed anyway
theres my 2
pence _________________

and -clamp the offending
post, with a handle bar stem -use an old one, as it will
fit on the thin part of the post -do it up tight and you
will be able to twist insert longer bar over stem for
leverage _________________ pro burner for sale
